Carus Thompson’s new release holds strong bonds to the idea that the rawest humans emotions are the best catalysts for song writing. It’s an honesty in his approach to song writing and performing that is so evident in this album. The term “troubadour” is often bandied around too easily. Almost to the point that the true meaning of the term has been diluted. Diluted to a level in which we simply call any bloke with a guitar who plays slow songs; a troubadour.

On this full featured and enjoyable 13-song set, Thompson and his fellow songwriters are mostly in high spirits. Thompson ambles in the feeling of sadness and deceit with opener “red Sky” and then hops around from gidiness to sorrow through a number of rich textured tracks. Later he explores the discovery of the eventual long lost love of (“You Made Me:) The understated cheerfulness is infectious when in unison with the sometimes upbeat and bouncy blend of acoustic-pop soft rock. This is potentially radio friendly chart topping music, but with enough rich and churning harmony vocals to make it a pleasing record all round.
