Weird Al Yankovic made a triumphant return to Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on Thursday night. The show was far from a sellout but an enthusiastic crowd eagerly awaited Weird Al and his band.
The show kicked off with a medley of Weird Al’s distinctive parodies of some of the most current top 40 hits. Covering acts such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Sean Paul, this medley provided probably the most up to date material of the entire show.
For those who have witnessed his previous tour it is likely that you will recognise a number of skits and parodies being performed on his latest show. Even the video-skit interludes displayed on the big-screen brought about déjà vu with punters wondering to themselves “haven’t we laughed at this Eminem skit before”.
Weird Al knocked out favourite after favourite and displayed energy and enthusiasm throughout the entire set. Weird Al executed each parody with preciseness only possible through decades of experience.
The die hard fans certainly appreciated every moment of the show and for the not so familiar with his style of humour, some of the skits may have proven to be on the tedious side. It is definitely a show not to be missed by the hardcore Weird Al fan and Adelaide was grateful for his return.
